What's the Difference Between Tox® and Dysport

Tox and Dysport are both prescription injectables that can reduce facial wrinkles and fine lines. Both Tox and Dysport are made from botulinum toxin type A, which works by preventing over-active facial muscles. This reduces the appearance of wrinkles, especially between the brows.

What Is Tox®?

Tox is a prescription neurotoxin that is used to relax the muscles in the forehead and around the eyes. When these muscles are relaxed, the skin above them becomes smoother and less wrinkled. The treatment also prevents the formation of new wrinkles.

Tox injections have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a safe and effective treatment for facial lines and wrinkles. Research has shown that the toxin is most successful when it is used in a series of treatments as opposed to one time. This helps to keep the muscles from getting accustomed to the effects of the injection.

Results typically appear within three to five days of an injection session and last about three months on average. Most patients prefer to receive treatment over the summer months to maintain results throughout the rest of the year.

Although Tox can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face and neck, it is not indicated for smile lines or wrinkles around your mouth. These areas can be successfully treated with dermal fillers.

What Is Dysport?

Dysport is a prescription injection that works similarly to Tox, but it is made using a different formula. Both are formulated with botulinum toxin type A, which is the same ingredient that is used in the popular wrinkle relaxer Xeomin. However, there are some key differences between the two formulas.

Tox was first approved by the FDA in 2002 and quickly became a popular treatment to reduce wrinkles, crow's feet, and other signs of age on the face and neck. Meanwhile, Dysport received approval for use in the U.S. in 2009, and since then, it has become a popular choice among patients who want to achieve a younger look without surgery or downtime. Although both treatments work to lift facial muscles and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, studies have shown that Dysport may require fewer injections for similar results when compared to Tox. This makes Dysport a preferred choice for many patients who are concerned about discomfort during treatment.

Difference Between Dysport and Tox

One of the primary distinctions between Dysport and Tox is the locations in which they are permitted for use. The frown lines between your eyebrows, known as glabellar lines, are the main problem that Dysport is designed to treat. For people who have moderate to severe frown lines, Dysport is a useful solution.

Contrarily, many various forms of wrinkles, such as crow's feet, forehead wrinkles, and laugh lines, can be treated with Tox. Tox might be a better choice for you if you have little to moderate wrinkles.

Both Tox and Dysport are safe and effective treatments that have helped many patients achieve their cosmetic goals without the need for invasive plastic surgery procedures.
